Well... not much marathon training was done this week. I ran once, a 3 miler, unless you count the 10K leg of my triathlon race on Sunday. I did a lot of riding while in the mountains on vacation, and only swam once.
On Monday's ride on the Glen Haven loop (Estes Park-Drake-Glen Haven-Estes Park), a photographer from the Estes Park Trail Gazette happened to come by as we were climbing out of Glen Haven, and he decided to take some pictures. Here are three pictures of me from that ride. Unfortunately, my friend Matt wasn't doing so well, and didn't make the entire climb... so he missed out on the photo op.
This is the middle of the switchback climb out of Glen Haven. The climb starts at the Glen Haven General Store, and rises rather gradually until you hit the switchbacks on this part. I waited for Matt at the base of these switchbacks, and then went the rest of the way without him (which is why he's not in the pictures. :) You can see the first switchback behind me. I thought I was gonna die. Luckily, it was very cool out, and was about to start raining. That wasn't a fun descent back into Estes Park.
This is my final ascent of the Alp de Glen Haven, as Matt termed it. I was really beat at this point, but still had a lot of road to cover before the summit.
This is the home stretch of the climb. When I talked to the photographer a few days later when I went to see if I could get the pictures he was taking, he told me he wanted to use this picture, and was going to call it "Pain & Suffering." That's a pretty accurate description. :)
